Weighted Animals

I just discovered that someone I sent 5 animals too has written a blog post about me!  Check out www.quilt-n-mama.blogspot.com.  The post about my animals was written on January 11, 2013.
This family has 5 kids!  Some of the children have some sensory issues.  A lot of kids with these problems benefit from weighted objects like blankets, vests and yes, plush animals.  I custom made 5 animals (1 per child), each with a final weight of 4lbs.  These animals are helping her kids focus and calm themselves.
I'm so happy that I was able to help out such a wonderful family!

Blue Dragon

I had another custom request come in a few weeks ago.  This one was for a stuffed animal like the Spiky Haired Blue Dragon from the cartoon Worthless Knight.  The customer requested that the legs be jointed.  I haven't worked a lot with joints and so decided to do button joints as they seemed to be the least intimidating for a newby.  I quite enjoyed working with the button joints and hope to make a few more plush with these joints.

I hope that this Spiky Haired Dragon enjoys her new home in Florida!

Glue Gun Fun

I'm in charge of the craft each week at my daughter's Brownie meeting (Brownie's are the Canadian equivalent of Girl Scouts).  This week is our first week back after the Christmas break.  Having been on holiday mode I hadn't quite figured out what we were going to do tonight.  Then, our other leader suggested an owl craft with the pine cones we have on hand.
Add googly eyes, feathers, construction paper and a glue gun and this little cutie is the result!
This is a fun, fast craft you can do with your little ones on snowy or rainy days.  Use different size pine cones and create a whole pine-owl family. :)

Here's to a New Year!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and enjoyed lots of good times!
We are finally back to schedule here with my husband back to work (after 3 weeks off!) and the kids back at school (well, 1 of the 3 anyway).
This year I'm hoping to get a few new things started including making my patterns available for sale.  I also plan on getting some kits online too.

For now, I'll leave you with a picture of "the biggest stuffed hippo ever!".  My previous post about the biggest stuffed hippo was completely inaccurate.  I actually ended up making a new, even bigger hippo, that measured about 6 feet long!  This guy was so huge my husband could have worn the fabric as a costume.
Enjoy!
